Cambridge L. Baker is Senior Counsel managing AMG LAW's Fairfax office. Ms. Baker has practiced exclusively family law throughout her career. Her practice covers a wide range of family law matters in Virginia, including separation, divorce, protective orders, custody, visitation, and support cases, with substantial experience in high net-worth and complex divorce cases as well as complicated custody cases, including relocation cases. She represents clients in Fairfax County, Loudoun County, and across Northern Virginia.
Originally from Longmont, Colorado, Ms. Baker grew up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She graduated from Elon University with a Bachelor of Arts, completing her studies a semester early. She double-majored in Political Science and International Relations and double-minored in Spanish and Latin American Studies, distinguishing herself as a Presidential Scholar.
Before pursuing law, Ms. Baker worked as a Private Wealth Management Administrative Assistant and later as a Wealth Management Professional at Goldman, Sachs & Co. in Boston and Washington, D.C., respectively. Licensed as a broker with FINRA Series 7 and 66, she worked closely with high-net-worth clients, attorneys, and accountants, providing personalized financial and investment services.
Ms. Baker left Goldman, Sachs & Co. in 2015 to attend the University of Richmond School of Law. While in law school, she clerked with the in-house legal department of CarMax, Inc. and served as President of the Trial Advocacy Board. She was also a Manuscripts Editor on the Richmond Journal of Law and Technology. She graduated with a Juris Doctor degree and was inducted into the Order of Barristers for her exceptional oral advocacy and brief writing. After passing the Virginia Bar Examination, Ms. Baker worked at two prominent family law firms in Northern Virginia, before joining AMG LAW PLC.
Ms. Baker is known for being thoroughly prepared in all aspects of her legal practice, ensuring that her clients receive diligent and strategic representation. She holds a perfect 10.0 rating from Justia and was recognized as a 2026 Best Lawyers "Ones To Watch In America", Super Lawyers Rising Star in 2023, 2024 and 2025. What can a client expect when working with you?
My clients can expect the same dedication to their cases that I would want someone to bring to my own. I understand that family law affects their daily lives, their long-term well-being, and the lives of their children and families. I keep those stakes in focus as I help clients understand their options and make informed decisions about their case and the next chapter of their lives.
Why does attention to detail matter so much in family law?
Family law touches some of the things that matter most to people: their children, their finances, and their future. Small details can have significant consequences, so I take the responsibility of examining them seriously. Careful preparation helps me understand the issues, identify potential problems, and present my client's position clearly in negotiations and in court.
How do you approach cases involving complex finances, property division, or relocation?
Every case is different, but complex finances, property division, and relocation require particularly thoughtful strategy, foresight, and preparation. I encourage clients to seek counsel early so we can identify the information we need and determine whether experts should be involved from the outset.
Early expert input can help clarify financial or other disputed issues and inform decisions about settlement or trial. I understand that clients are concerned about the cost of retaining experts. My approach is to discuss their role and potential value early, rather than leave those decisions until trial is approaching.
What do you wish clients understood about preparation before going into litigation?
Preparation begins when a client retains counsel, not just before trial. From the outset, I focus on developing a strategy, gathering information through discovery, identifying relevant witnesses and experts, preserving evidence, and assessing both the strengths and weaknesses of the case.
Discovery can feel burdensome, time-consuming, and expensive, but it gives us information we need to evaluate the case and prepare for negotiations or trial. Doing that work carefully and early helps us address gaps while there is still time, rather than scrambling to resolve them at the last minute.
